My Leaf Series include real leaf skeletons embedded in the clay prior to bisque firing. The leaf burns away during firing, leaving a fossil behind. This traps delicate vascular framework of the leaf within the permanence of the fired stoneware. The lacy patterns of veins show the original vascular systems of the leaves. These works enable short-lived leaves to endure, continually reminding observers how delicate forms in nature leave a mark.
